What your client sees, and how they pay

The page your client opens, the UPI link that pays it, and why Riffit asks you to confirm a payment instead of detecting one.

2 min read · Video 1:36 · Updated 2026-09-08

Your client does not need a Riffit account, an app, or a login. They get a link. Opening it shows them the invoice.

The page

It is a web page, and on a phone it is the whole invoice: your name and business details, their name, every line with its quantity and rate, the totals, and the due date.

Below that, one button: Pay via UPI. There is a QR code beside it for anyone paying from a different device.

They can download the PDF from the same page. Nothing is gated behind signing up.

How the money moves

Tapping Pay via UPI opens their UPI app with your UPI ID and the invoice amount already filled in. They approve it there.

The money goes straight from their bank to yours. Riffit is not in the middle of it, does not hold it, and does not take a cut.

That is a deliberate design choice rather than a missing feature. Routing client payments through Riffit would make it a payment aggregator under RBI rules, which is a different kind of company with a different licence. So the button is a direct UPI link, and your ID is the only one on it.

Why Riffit asks instead of knowing

Here is the part that surprises people.

A UPI deep link is one-way. Once their app takes over, nothing reports back to the page. There is no callback, no webhook, no confirmation. Riffit cannot see that a payment happened.

So after the payment screen, the page asks the client a question: did you pay? If they tap yes, you get a nudge on your dashboard saying so.

Read that nudge for what it is. It is your client saying they paid, not Riffit confirming they did. It means go and look at your bank.

Marking the invoice as paid is your move, from the dashboard, once you have seen the money. That is the only thing that closes an invoice, and it is on purpose: the alternative is a tool that tells you money arrived when it has not.

What you can actually see

One thing, and it is genuinely useful: whether the link was opened.

When your client opens the invoice, you get a message. Not a payment, an open. "They never got it" and "they got it and have not paid" are two different conversations, and this is what tells you which one you are in.

That works on every plan.

If they would rather have email

Every invoice can go by email instead, or as well. The email carries the PDF and the same link, so a client who wants a paper trail gets one and a client who lives in WhatsApp gets that.

It is the only way I know which guides are working.
